Whether you have recently moved to a new area or you have started on a new path of holistic health for your animal child, it can be very difficult to find a holistic veterinarian. You can start the process of finding the correct Vet by visiting the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association website atwww.ahvma.org. On their website you can enter in your zip code/state/etc. and they will give you all the registered Holistic Veterinarians in your area.

All Holistic Vets differ with their services just like our Doctors. Some offer a wide variety of therapies such as Acupuncture, Chiropractic Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Chinese Medicine, Homeopathic Remedies, etc., while other Holistic Vets might only offer one or two services. It is very important after you find Holistic Vets in your area to visit their websites and contact them to make sure they are what you and your animal need. Many people will drive up to 3 hours to visit the Vet that is right for them.

Sometimes you can go to your established/general Veterinarian practitioner to get minor services like Parvo/Distemper Titers, annual wellness blood work, etc. and then have them fax the results to your Holistic Vet that you visit 1-2 times a year. Find out from your current Veterinarian if they are willing to work with you, most of them will, even if they frown upon it. It is important to remember that you are your pet’s advocate, your pet’s voice, so no one can tell you what you will and will not do when it comes to making health based decisions for your loved ones. You should always keep a copy of your pets complete health records so you can pass on his history if you ever need to. (Veterinarians must give you records upon your request).

You of course can do Google searches and read online reviews when choosing a Veterinarian as well. The most important thing for you to do is actually contact the offices personally to make your own decisions and judgments. Dr. Becker’s Bites wishes you all good luck and happy thoughts as always when it comes to important decisions for you and your fur-babies!!
